With the continuous progress of EAF steelmaking technology, EAF steelmaking has undergone profound changes, some technical problems restricting EAF steelmaking have been solved, and the advantages of EAF steelmaking are more and more obvious, such as long smelting cycle, 240 minutes per furnace steelmaking time, low productivity, high power consumption, up to 630 kW. · h/t; high electrode consumption, up to 6.5kg/t; no refining equipment, product quality and varieties are limited; low efficiency, less capital investment.

 

The advantages of the improved EAF steelmaking process are (compared with the converter steelmaking process):

 

(1) The smelting cycle is shortened, the smelting time of each furnace is 30-60 minutes, which is similar to that of converter, and the productivity is greatly improved.

 

(2) The power consumption has dropped dramatically, from 300 to 450 kW.h/t.

 

(3) The consumption of electrodes also decreased significantly, ranging from 1.0 kg/t to 1.1 kg/t.

 

(4) With high-level refining equipment, the product quality has been greatly improved, especially in smelting many high-alloy steels.

 

(5) High efficiency. Taking the report of Handan Iron and Steel Company in 2006 as an example, the annual steel output of Handan Iron and Steel Company is 4.2 times that of Wugang, and the total profit is 2.1 times that of Wugang, while the profit of Wugang per ton of steel is 2 times that of Handan Iron and Steel Company. The relevant data are shown in Table 1. It can be seen that the advantages of EAF steel and special steel are the main reasons for the vigorous development of EAF steelmaking in developed countries.
